The work we do

The BBSU serves as a statewide hub of resources, technical assistance, capacity building, training and development for young people, educators and community organizers in the state of CT.

Through our work, we offer Education & Leadership Development and seek to build Transformative Networks.  Our current #CareNotCops campaign, run by CT BBSU’s Community First Coalition aims to dissolve Connecticut’s reliance on police officers in schools and build a system that emphasizes community and care in our educational system.

Transformative Networks

CT’s BIPOC founded and led youth justice and community organizing collaborative. We are a hub of skill-building, innovation, community, and power.

The BBSU was conceived of by Hearing Youth Voices, CT Students 4 a Dream, Grow Hartford Youth Program, Youth Council 4 Justice (YC4J) and Citywide Youth Coalition. Our big dream was building a collaborative space between organizations in CT to build relationships, skills and praxis toward political power.

We intentionally and specifically develop the leadership of Black, BIPOC, Indigenous and queer people rooted in a strategy for liberated futures.

What does transformational mean?

We are here to be changed by the work we do. Through struggle, we strive for our internal liberation to achieve the world we deserve. We work on systems and we work on ourselves. Transformative networks change a place by changing the relationships of people in them.
